22 Marriage record in Washington County, Maryland, was in 1817 (WASHINGTON CO. LIBRARY,HAGERSTOWN MARYLAND,21740). Jacob Rose was born in Maryland in 1823, but Catharine Rose was born in Stark Couty, Ohio, in 1825. Catharine and the family were in LaPorte, Indiana by 1843 when Sarah Ellen was born. She was still present in Indiana when Rebecca and Margarett were born in about 1844-45. She was in Kosciusco County, Indiana in the 1850 and 1860 census.

Catharine's last name has been spelled variously, but her marriage record spells it Zerby, which is quite possibly Zerbe, but other family members give it as Zerby.
Zerby, Catherine (I6306)
23 St. John's Lutheran Church record of marriage September 1817, Washington County, Maryland. One descendant says the story from George D., the son, was that his father lived with his mother's parents in Fredrick, Maryland, and learned the shoemaker's trade.
The 1844, La Porte County, Indiana school enumeration lists him, as does the 1850 and 1860 Kosciosco County, Indiana census. Information is from Nellie Rose, wife of the grandson of the subject, at 4026COLFAX AVE.DESMOINES IOWA,50317, and she lists burials in Carlisle Cemetary.
Biographies of Progressive Men of Kosciosco County, Indiana states that he died at age 85 in 1880. It also says that, "his father emigrated to the United States in 1793, when a lad of 2 years. Located first in Maryland and his father grew up and learned the jewlers trade, his residence being Georgetown. He lived there until his death. George D. reared in Maryland and put out to learn the shoemakers trade. After his appointment, he opened his own shop in Fredricksberg, Maryland, and remained there several years. While at Reading, Pennsylvania, he met Miss Catherine Zerby and soon after they were married."
